Depth interviews are interviews that discuss topics in depth on a one-to-one basis with an individual. Depth interviews are usually used when a key understanding is required from an individual. They are different from focus groups in that the interviewer's full attention can be paid to the individual being interviewed, as opposed to being in a group discussion format.

Instances of depth interviews may include talking to professional persons such as doctors, solicitors, key-opinion-leaders, etc. Depth interviews are also often integrated into usability testing environments, such as testing a client's website on a one-to-one basis.
